About Floating
Over the years, many solutions have been suggested
for the stresses of modern life such as acupuncture,
reflexology
and massage.
Other less healthy and more widely used alternatives
are alcohol and drugs, which do not reduce the
stress level, but merely blot it out temporarily.
There is however, another option, backed up by
a huge amount of medical and scientific research:
THE FLOATATION TANK.
How the Floatation Tank works
700lbs
of Epsom salts are added to 170 gallons of water,
creating a 10 inch deep solution which is heated
to 35.5 degrees centigrade (skin temperature).
Unless you are an astronaut, this is the only
situation you will encounter where your body is
free from the forces of gravity. Every single
muscle in the body is allowed to relax.
With ear plugs in and, if you wish, the floatation
tanks interior lights off, the quietness and the
darkness allow the mind to drift into the deepest
state of relaxation possible. This in turn balances
the brain: that is, reduces the activity in the
left (logical) side of the brain and increases
activity in the right (creative) side. For the
first time, both sides of your brain are in total
harmony. When you consider that we normally only
use 11% of our total brain power, you can see
that a session in the float tank enables us to
tap into a huge, previously unavailable source
of creativity, imagination, self-visualization
and problem solving.
Floatation Tanks for Sports Men and Sports Women
Every
muscle is allowed to rest and recover. By using
the floatation tank in conjunction with visualization
techniques many athletes have found rapid improvement
in their performances.
After years of mediocrity, American football
team the Philadelphia Eagles acquired a float
tank and went on to win the NFC championship.
Their baseball playing neighbors - the Phillies
noticed the floatation tank in their dressing
room. Many of the players began floating and the
team went on to win its first world series for
decades.
Rate of recovery after physical exercise is improved
beyond recognition. What normally takes a long
period of time - usually days for recovery from
a marathon - the floatation tank compresses into
a number of hours. By relieving the stresses of
gravity, floating takes the weight off strained
bones, joints, and muscles and increases the efficiency
of the blood circulating through the body.
Floatation Tanks for Pain Control
Floating causes the body to release endorphins,
the body's own painkiller, in particular the beta-endorphin.
Released in times of comfort as well as pain they
are far more powerful than drugs such as morphine
and are associated with relief from migraine,
back pain, arthritis and so on. There is also
indisputable evidence that floating lowers blood
pressure and heartbeat rate.
Floatation Tanks for Business Pressures
Pressures at work are eliminated, leaving you
with a clear mind to concentrate 100% on the matter
in hand. It increases creativity, the ability
to solve problems, concentration, personal motivation
and energy levels.
Floatation Tanks for Breaking Addictions
In tests controlled by eminent members of the
medical profession, results have shown that floatation
tank users achieved a reduction of 50% in cigarette
smoking and 45% in alcohol consumption.
Floatation Tanks for Skin Care
As well as the physical and emotional effects,
the salts and minerals contained in the solution
are extremely beneficial to the skin.
About Your Floatation Tank Session
Each
floatation tank is situated in a lockable private
room, equipped with an invigorating power shower
for use before and after the float session. Shampoos,
soaps and hairdryers are provided free of charge,
although we ask that wherever possible clients
provide their own towel, however we do have a
towel hire service.
There is a light inside for beginners or for
those who may not feel secure in the dark, although
we have found that almost all users are floating
in the dark within three sessions. Because of
the saline nature of the solution we advise that
all clients should not shave on the day of the
float tank session.
