Aromatherapy

AromatherapyAromatherapy is the art, and science, of using oils extracted from aromatic plants to enhance health and beauty. Apart from the physical benefits, essential oils can have subtle effects on the mind and emotions. The essential oils taken from plants and used in Aromatherapy have been described as their "life force" - they are essential to the plants' biological process, as well as being the substance which gives them their scent. Synthetic oils, even if chemically similar, will lack all the natural elements, and that vital life-force, that make essential oils so valuable therapeutically

Swedish Body Massage

Swedish Body MassageDiffering from Aromatherapy massage in that it is traditionally more vigorous. Working on muscle groups and with the body's systems to relax overworked muscles, clear waste and toxins and to stimulate the circulation. Especially beneficial after exercise or along side weight loss to improve muscle tone.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head MassageAn Indian Head Massage dispels stress, relieves tension in the neck, head and shoulders and promotes healthy hair. It is a safe and simple yet extremely effective form of massage that can assist hair growth and also provide relief from aches and pains.

The head, neck and shoulders are the most important energy centres within your body. Think for a moment, when you are stressed or angry where does the tension seem to accumulate? In the neck, shoulders or in the form of a headache. In extreme cases it can manifest itself as hair loss. Indian Head Massage involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help unknot blockages and so relieve this uncomfortable tension. The head and hair are very sensitive as they are full of nerve endings. This makes them very receptive to touch, massaging the head and hair is deeply soothing and relaxing.

It not only improves blood circulation to the head and neck area before speeding up the interchange of oxygen, nutrients, carbon dioxide and waste, but also improves lymphatic drainage from the head and neck so aiding the removal of waste and toxins.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a Complementary Therapy that works on the feet or hands enabling the body to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet. For each person the application and the effect of the therapy are unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.

Chartered Physiotherapy

If you suffer from back or neck pain, arthritis or a sports injury - in fact any joint or muscle problem - physiotherapy can relieve you pain and get you moving again.

Physiotherapy is a holistic approach, involving the treatment of injury and disease by enhancing the body's own natural healing process.

Initially the physiotherapist will assess you, in order to form a clinical diagnosis. Appropriate treatment is planned using any of the following techniques:

  • Mobilisation to free joints and relieve pain or spasm
  • Manipulation to realign misplaced joints
  • Massage to relieve muscle spasm and increase circulation
  • Electrotherapy to accelerate healing and relieve pain
  • Exercise prescription specific to each individual

You do not have to be referred by a doctor for physiotherapy, but some insurance companies require this if you are planning to make a claim.

Susan Godfrey has been qualified for twenty years and after further studies in musculo-skeletal medicine, has specialised in the treatment of spinal conditions and sports injuries. Susan has worked at both amateur and professional level in sports medicine and is recognised by all the major insurance companies.
